Behind the Scenes.

Inspired by the Matthew Jordan Smith workshop I took in Seattle two weeks ago, I immediately started to plan the concept and all the details for my next project-an editorial fashion shoot . After tons of research and sewing through the images that I’ve been most attracted to these last weeks, I finally decided the concept for the shoot would be ”opposites-the saint and the sinner”. Then I set out to look for the two girls who would best embody it and was very lucky to find them both at Agency Model Management, a NY agency. The models Anastasia and Marie did a great job, one as the fiery seductress and the other as the cool muse. The stylist was the incredibly inspired Brit Cato, and I can’t imagine how we could pull this off without the creativity of make-up artist Martyna Kopczynska and hairstylist Toni Giselle.

For some one that likes in-studio photography like me, the first thing to do in New York is to find a nice and comfortable studio to work at. My first beauty shots where made in my living room between the kitchen and the coach. Of course, every body who came there -models, make up artist, stylist- were a bit turned off by the cramped space. We did some good jobs though. A couple of times I rented by the day and it was a good experience but it can get too expensive. When renting always be aware that lighting and light modifiers will be charged extra. A normal studio offers the space, stands and sometimes a background paper. Everything adds on. So the best is to know what you’re going to use in advance. Normally I adapt to the equipment at the studio I work in, but sometimes I’ll rent something outside. One of the best places for this is adorama. They have good prices and great equipment. Fortunately now I’m sort of established at Attic Studios. A great studio space that offers a membership program that I recommend to anyone who is working from a studio around here.

Cheers.
